Warning. Teeny bit of bad language in here...
On August 15th, the Cardinals were in 3rd place in the Central.
They were 61-56 and the Reds were 64-55.
While it wasn't crazy to think the Cards could overtake the Reds, I did not see the extreme nature of this Cardinals surge coming.
A 12-game winning streak?
It's just so Cardinal.
And the White Sox.. we definitely figured they were gonna win their division.
But I guess all told, it's not that unexpected we'd be in this.. particularly distasteful situation.
Since my last post, the Cards swept a 4-gamer from the Brewers in Milwuakee, and my teeny hope that the Cubs could be a factor in somehow helping knock the Cards out of the playoffs is toast.
Their magic number is 6.
The Phillies are 4.5 games behind them, and the Reds are wheezing at the finish line, having lost 7 of their last 10.
According to FanGraphs, the Cards now have a 98.2% chance of making the playoffs.
And already, that damn Cardinal crap is being written.
Here's a snippet from today's St. Louis Post Dispatch about their win yesterday:
"These Cardinals, ever being Cardinal, expertly and methodically dismantled that five-run deficit..."
50 paper cuts at once.
Fingernails on a chalkboard.
Physically retching as I read it.
Well... yada yada.
We're living in a giant Ouch at the End, but it'll all soon be water under the bridge.
In front of us now, there's still 7 Cubs vs Cards games, so... must watch stuff.
As Harry used to say, "Anything can happen when the Cubs play those pricks from St. Louis."
Okay he never said it that way, but whatever.
