The last time we heard from Jon Lester, he was buying Cub fans a beer - Miller Lite - as a thank you.
4 bars, one beer apiece, came out to about $47,000.
(I can't find it on google, but the only thing close that I can recall is when Shawon Dunston took a bunch of fans to the old McDonald's across the street after a game, and bought them a hamburger.)
But tonight, we'll see Lester and Kyle Schwarber in their return to Wrigley.
Lester will be on the mound vs. Adbert Alzolay, and maybe Schwarber will start - we don't know yet.
If you listen to Ian Happ's "The Compound" podcast (which you absolutely should), you'll know Schwarber is r e a l l y looking forward to returning to Wrigley.
(Listen here - it's a great episode.)
Anyway, the game is set to start at 6:40 pm Chi-Time, but tune in early because for sure they're gonna have some kind of emotional video thing for them before the game.
I'm pretty sure I'll be there, and I'm prepared to get something in my eye right about then.
Because I'll always love those guys.
And then, there'll be a baseball game.
Lester said (MLB.com), “The trash-talking has already started, It started a while ago at Spring Training when I saw Rizz.”
I think that'll make for a really fun game.
What happened in Detroit?
Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad but DAMN!
After using 8 pitchers and taking the lead in the top of the 10th, losing 8-9 on Saturday really sucked.
In Duffy We Trusty went absolutely WILD, going 3 for 5 with a dinger and 5 RBIs.
It's always extra heartbreaking when someone does such heroic stuff and you want to celebrate that, but then the team loses and wrecks all the fun.
You remember how awful the bats were at the beginning of the season, but now with the addition of sparkplug Duffy as the starting 3rd baseman...
This from Tony Andracki:
Over the last month (starting with the 13-run outburst against the Braves on April 17), the Cubs offense has been among the best in Major League Baseball in just about every category:
OPS — .778 (1st)
Runs — 138 (2nd)
OBP — .341 (2nd)
SLG — .437 (2nd)
wRC+ — 113 (3rd)
BB% — 10.0 (4th)
AVG — .259 (5th)
And it's sure been a ton more fun to watch.
Alec Mills and Trevor Megill are both on the 10-day, but Nico Hoerner and Ian Happ are back, and they look great.
Happ went 3 for 4 yesterday with an oppo-homer to right (he was batting righty) and a couple RBIs while Hoerner had a sac fly/RBI.
Okay, Monday Night Baseball TONIGHT!
