After watching last night's crazy-thrilling extra inning Cubs W, I was reminded of a quote from this guy who used to manage our favorite team.
Which in turn inspired me to make an inspirational poster:
And it's a perfect day for celebration, since the Cubs have today off.
I'm hoping they remembered Maddon's advice, maybe on the plane back from St. Louis.
It's not that often the Cubs get to go downstate and take a series from the Cardinals, especially when the rubber match features Adam Wainwright and Zach Davies.
But Davies stepped up and went a solid 5, giving up no runs while dodging bullets.
The bullet-dodging was kind of a theme that went on all night, perpetuated by whoever that terrible ump was (seriously, umps like that are fuel to a giant robot ump bonfire).
Made for some really awesome drama, though.
I'll never say another bad word about Ryan Tepera.
How he got out of that bases-loaded-nobody-out hole with Edman, Goldschmidt and Arenado coming up I'll... well I do know.
He got Edmon to ground out, Goldie to pop up (to Willy), and Arenado to K.
My heart, man.
But then, Javy.
When he connected on the straight-away shot to center, Bader ran back like he was gonna catch it.
Bader-dude, that was A BOMB.
I would guess, since it was coming almost straight down, that it was easily 20'-25' over his head.
And then, Kimbrel, and a W.
That direct hit on Willy's wrist, though.
Not just how did he stay in, but how did he not...
Yesterday when I was grilling, a gate was left open, and I left the side door to the garage open.
I walked inside the house, came back out and walked into the garage.
It was bright outside, and really dark in there.
Suddenly, a HUGE beaver or small bear revealed itself in the darkness, and I kind of let out a little scream.
Okay it was a loud scream and it was actually not a beaver or a bear, but rather the neighbor's furry-doodle dog.
It had come in thru the left-open gate.
I guess that's the difference between Willy and I.
One screams and one doesn't.
Anyway, just fantastic baseball all weekend.
1) The Laugher 2) The Bummer (still a great game), and 3) The Rubber Victory.
Here's another inspirational poster I made with a quote from a much less articulate man than Joe Maddon:
It was too late last night, but I did grab a martini glass and put it in the freezer.
And tonight I shall toast this entire Cubtastic weekend, like Joe told me to.
