Homers. Grand Salamis. Hits. Doubles.
Stuff like that would be really nice right about now.
Perhaps if Joe Maddon were still around, some Halloween costumes like the above might be appropriate.
The Cubs lost again to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
This time 1-2 as an odd (2 homers to lead off the game for Pittsburgh? What?) yet effective Kyle Hendricks 7 2/3 inning performance is wasted.
The Cubs could muster only 5 hits and score once on Anthony Rizzo's 2nd homer in as many days.
When the pitcher changes from 2-8 and 6.18 ERA Trevor Williams to, well, ANY playoff pitcher will be much better than that... it would appear to be disaster is coming.
Len and JD.. Pat and Ron.. most anybody in a position to communicate stuff about our favorite team, those people all keep saying that Cub batters will eventually reflect the back of their baseball card.
If "eventually" doesn't start like today, it could be a really ugly way to end this season of the Covid Cubs.
So here's hoping the bats wake the hell up and I mean right now.
Because today's game is about to start.
And yeah, I know the Cubs already clinched a spot, but going into the playoffs losing the last 3 series doesn't help one's confidence or momentum.
Not looking too far ahead, but it'll be the White Sox next.
They also have clinched a playoff spot, and have 2 more wins than the Cubs.
In fact, their team OPS is .786 and ranked #8, while the Cubs are way down at #24 with a .702.
Everybody knows the Cubs are better than this.
Maybe they'll show it.
There's still time.
