It wasn't but a couple weeks ago I thought NO WAY THIS SEASON CAN HAPPEN.
Seriously, it's crazy that they even tried, and crazier that the Chicago Cubs will be playing the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at grilling time.
I'm ECSTATIC!
But also, this season - the whole deal - is just. so. fragile.
(THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BUT A GIF WON'T WORK ON MY BLOG TODAY, SO HERE'S A LINK TO THE ART ON MY INSTAGRAM)
I'll bet you watched the Nats vs Yanks, right?
And then you know that Nat star Juan Soto is already out with a positive Covid 19 test.
Poof.
He's gone.
For at least the start of the season.
So think of the implications and all the stuff that's happening at a dizzying speed right now.
Contact tracing... testing... yucko.
The game itself was cut off by a storm, but we got to see Gerrit Cole beat Max Scherzer in basically 5 innings.
It appears that Giancarlo Stanton is healthy and omg did you see that homer off Scherzer?
If that wasn't scary enough, the Dodgers opened against the Giants because rivalry, but that's just not fair.
The Giants are kind of a mess right now, while the Dodgers appear to be the most terrifying team we've seen in recent memory.
They're stacked with genius studs at every position, and they'll be tough to beat in... whatever this new version of playoffs will be.
From the NYTimes: "The new format — which covers only the 2020 season — will eliminate the wild-card play-in games, which had been held since 2012, when the playoff field was expanded to 10 teams from eight. Now, M.L.B. will begin the postseason with eight best-of-three matchups (four in each league), before the usual best-of-five division series and best-of-seven league championship and World Series rounds."
While it actually makes sense to me to do this kind of a thing as a one-off during this weird shortened season, I can almost promise that this will be the new thing.
Remember this?
"We're going to put cameras in the outfield to assist umpires with home run calls. BUT THAT''S IT. Scouts honor. We won't use them for anything else."
It's the same deal.
It'll grab the attention of the Millennial market that the MLB craves.
And I can also guarantee the DH will stick.
Both of them will be just a matter of a couple meetings.
Rather than yank the rest of my hair out, I'll try to embrace it.
This season, if it actually gets all the way to the playoffs, that'll be some crazy excitement and be honest: you're craving sports excitement.
So fingers crossed this season keeps going all the way til the end.
And that the Cubs are playing in those last games.
Well, that was a nice start to the season!
It was sure nice to hear Pat Hughes.
Hendricks!!!
Only 59 games left. Don't blink!
Love the GIF.
Enjoy your new employment! Sounds like you won't be bored much!

Kyle...how good was that?
I don't know that I've seen a guy step up as dramatically (and effectively) as what Mr. Hendricks delivered tonight.
1st place with just 59 games to play!
Go Cubs!

OMG that was... not expected.
When Rossy went out in the 9th... well if you watched after all he did was say something like "just one more guy. go get him." SO AWESOME!!!

Seriously, these games will fly by. Except for Hendricks' games. He seems to be able to slow it all down. What an amazing beginning to this season.
