I miss Ron Santo.
Real. Raw. No filter.
Through a freak of nature chance as an Air Force family that moved all over the place, we happened to live in Chicago during the summer of '69.
My dad went on a trip, and we stayed with my grandparents on the North side.
My Grandpa Russ was a huge fan, I got hooked on the Cubs when I was really little, and Santo was my favorite player.
I remember "Pizza Power" way more than how good he was or the clicking his heels thing.
And honestly I couldn't tell you why I remember that - he must have said it because of his restaurant in Rockford? (I screengrabbed this from rrstar.com):
Don't really know, but I do know this...
Despite his incredible stats, the Hall of Fame didn't vote him in until the year after he passed away.
I'll NEVER forgive them for that slight.
Whatever, Happy Birthday Ron Santo.
I got to see a little bit of Cubs at Dodgers, and it's like a horror movie seeing Mookie Betts in Dodger blue.
That team does not appear to have any holes or needs, and surely they'll have an extra bit of "inspiration" with the cheating Astros thing and perhaps stealing the '17 World Series from them.
Yesterday's game was a 16-12 Cub W, and you always hear the pitchers have an advantage over the batters in ST, so... WHAT HAPPENED!
30 hits - 15 apiece.
Rowan Wick's numbers look beyond horrible - his ERA is 67.50.
Of course, panicking over that is just like believing Albert Almora's numbers will hang around.
He's got a 1.000 OBP and 2.000 SLG after he went 3 for 3 with a homer.
Not sustainable, but that's (Spring) baseball.
According to the latest NL Central Divisional Odds, the Cubs will come in 2nd behind the Cardinals.
Interestingly, that's the same as PECOTA, only they've got the Reds in first.
Just like every year, each step of baseball becomes The Next Thing I Can't Wait For.
A month ago, couldn't wait til pitchers and catchers report.
Couple days ago, couldn't wait to see ST Baseball actually being played.
And now, I CAN'T WAIT TIL REAL BASEBALL STARTS.
But right now it's a billion times better than, say, mid-November.
