Watching Yu Darvish pitch the first couple innings last night had me... I'm just getting worn down by the lack of.. something.
His lack of concentration?
He's so talented, it makes me insane that he's not absolutely dominating.
Between he and Arizona's Zach Godley, it seemed like about 3 hours of the first 2 innings.
Top of the 3rd started with back to back Schwarber and Darvish strike outs, and I was thinking I could surely be doing something more fun on a Saturday night.
But then... a 2-out, 5-run rally. The best kind.
Descalso walks, Bryant doubles, Godley balks Descalso in, Rizzo doubles in Bryant, Báez walks and up comes David Bote.
His hit the ball so hard his homer cleared the fence in the time it took to gasp.
Up to the 2nd deck, woulda gone 469 feet.
So now it's 5 zip Cubs, and then Darvish did something I don't think he's done yet as a Cub - he struck out the side.
Like the guy he's supposed to be.
He went 6 innings and threw 110 pitches, gave up a homer and 4 BB, but damn!
That's called a quality start. Finally.
Later Bote would hit his 2nd homer of the night, driving in Rizzo, giving him 5 RBIs and his first multi-homer game.
A truly bodacious performance.
Thus the painting.
Cubs 9 DBacks 1.
Rubber game at 3:10.
