Strange days indeed.
I don't know about you, but this has just felt... odd lately.
The absolute lack of hitting, the curious and bad news about Darvish, the continuing absence of Kris Bryant and Brandon Morrow, the Weird Consecutive Games Of Solo Homers, the Cardinals rising from the scrap, seeing Daniel Murhpy in a Cubs uniform, watching Javy Baez go from MVP candidate to flailer at the plate...
To make it even stranger, I felt a free fall happening even as the Cubs were keeping the lead in the Central.
What is wrong with me?
If I don't watch out, I'll start with the Fear of Black Cats all over again.
I'm supposed to feel confident.
This should be one of the Prime Years of the New Cubs, Bryzzo and the Cubs Way.
Instead, things like...
This last weekend, I said "Honey, we haven't had a margarita all summer. Can you pick up some limes, triple sec and tequila at the grocery?"
She came back with this:
I mean... what the hell, man?
Anyway, thank GOD the bats woke up last night.
Bote hit a homer, and it wasn't a solo shot.
I almost wept.
Whatever the Baseball Gods were doing with the Cubs, they must have gotten distracted.
Up 2-1, then professional batter with baggage Daniel Murphy hit a single to knock in another.
A 2-run lead.
Contreras knocks one in.
And in the bottom of the 8th when ex-Cub Jeimer Candelario scored to make it 4-2, the Cubs came right back with a back to back barrage of 4 more runs.
Javy Baez homers with 2 on, then Anthony Rizzo ices the cake.
It was like seeing some long lost friends again!
Okay, hopefully this bat thing continues with the pesky Reds in town as the Cubs begin Series #2 in the Span of 7 Series In A Row Without a Day off Because of the Make Up Game with Atlanta On the 30th.
