Really, we knew in our hearts he wasn't gonna be a Cub, and I just got a push notification that Wade Davis signed with the Colorado Rockies.
From MLBTR: "Davis, a client of Jet Sports Management, receives a three-year, $52MM contract that includes a vesting player option for a fourth season which could take the deal’s value to $66MM over four years. That contract’s $17.33MM annual value is a record among relievers, Passan notes."
(MLBTR also had predicted that Davis would sign elsewhere (Astros) for 4 years/60 million.)
So... Jorge Soler turned into a year's worth of Wade.
I'll take it, although I still expect Soler to do something in the bigs (besides get injured).
Probably the Cubs closer will be Brandon Morrow, but we'll see.
Anyway, Wade, thanks for the saves and being such a steady, excellent pro.
The 44-pitch performance in the NLDS game five 9-8 clincher over the Nats will always be a highlight, and not just because of how wacky that game was.
Good luck until we see you next.
