It's the top of the 8th in Game 6 of the NLDS, and I give.
It's the last game of 2017 for our favorite team.
They're down a grand slam + 5 other runs by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
I did this portrait of Joe Maddon a couple weeks ago.
Was hoping to be able to use it when the Cubs won this series, but whatever.
The Cubs, I think they went as far as they could this year.
That Washington series was fanTAStic, and that's where I think they left it all on the field.
They celebrated, they flew, they stopped off in Albuquerque, they landed in Los Angeles and if we're honest with ourselves, they were... actually it was more like the Dodgers were like a brand new Cadillac that had just been tuned and waxed.
The Cubs were a dusty pickup that just got off Route 66.
A quarter tank and not alot of rubber left on the tires.
When they won last night, I could not believe it.
Jake Arrieta all guts, Willson Contreras' dang near 500 footer and Javy Baez with the twin knocks... something to behold.
But it just wasn't meant to be this year.
My buddy Oif texted and said he thought it was good for this team to experience this.
Because unlike any team we've ever rooted for in the past, this team is built for the long run.
That makes more sense if you've been rooting for the Cubs long as I have.
But really, 2003 was like lightning in a bottle - seriously nobody expected that.
2008 and 9 seemed a little more solid, but... poof and fizzle.
The 2015 Cubs (cause that's really who this is), have been monsters for 3 straight years.
St. Louis is in full-on panic, Milwaukee woke up, and I almost feel sorry for Pittsburgh.
But it's our time now, even with this year's failure.
And this is what being a perennial powerhouse feels like.
Lots of guys faced lots of personal difficulties this year.
They'll be better because of it.
But I'm getting off track.
How's this instead:
THANK YOU, CHICAGO CUBS, MY FAVORITE TEAM IN ANY SPORT, FOR NOT JUST REACHING THE NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES FOR THE 3RD YEAR IN A ROW... but also thank you for another awesome summer.
Because at the bottom of everything, that's all I really want.
(And you have to put that in context... most of my life, summer has sucked.)
"We go to the bottom of the 9th and the Dodgers are 3 outs from winning the National League Championship." says Pat Hughes.
(I'm going to miss that voice SO MUCH for about 5 months.)
But Enrique "Kike" Hernandez just hit his 3rd homer of the night, it's now 1-11, and I'm done.
I love the guy.
I can't imagine anyone better to lead our group of 23-27 year olds.
Thank you for all the fun, dude.
Next, I so apologize for missing the last couple days.
Work is work and when you have to, you do.
Even during the NLCS.
And thank you for coming to visit, looking at some art, and leaving a comment here or there.
Theo's got some work to do, but I think 2018 is gonna be amazing.
