Yes, there have been lots of firings and hirings in the Chicago Cubs coaching staff and a whole lotta ink spent talking about it.
It sounds like Management is unhappy with some aspects of both pitching and hitting.
Whatever you think of how it was/is being spun, we know a couple things are true.
All the replacements are A) well respected and B) only recently available.
While I didn't expect these firings much at all, when they started happening I thought.. okay it makes sense.
I mean, I loved Chris Bosio.
He's some kind of genius guy for sure.
But if Management thinks there's somebody better in Jim Hickey, and he's got a history with Joe Maddon - I get it.
Bring him in.
If your seriously expensive right fielder is still not living up to expectations with the bat after a whole off-season and season of fixing his swing, bring in Chili Davis.
Maybe he can help.
It's just funny that the one thing we actually DID kind of expect actually DID happen.
Bench coach Dave Martinez FINALLY got a manager's job, this one replacing Dusty Baker in Washington, and good luck to you, Dave.
But it left a hole in Joe Maddon's staff that could be filled by... Dave Ross.
World Series Hero.
He's like the Cubs Clubhouse Older Brother, which is arguably more important to this Cubs team than his baseball IQ, which we also know is excellent.
Everybody expects him to become a manager some day.
And while he's been pretty busy on Dancing With The Stars, Saturday Night Live, and parachuting into the Air and Water Show, he's probably available too.
What an opportunity, and I would love to see this happen.
I think Joe would too.
As for this World Series... good LORD.
You think that ball is juiced?
22 home runs so far, a record, and we're only through game 5.
People are going to be talking about this for a long time.
I mean, I don't know if the ball's juiced or what, but it's certainly out there.
And for all the talk of Clayton Kershaw being the best pitcher of his generation... dude, there's a hole in that bucket.
Anyway, entertaining for sure.
And I can't believe I'm saying this, but... go Astros.
I made some new prints that are now available on my Etsy store. Ernie Banks...
