Wasn't THAT a nice how do you do?
I didn't think he was going to come back for a couple more days.
Suddenly there's Dexter Fowler in the batter's box hitting one straight-as-you-please... out.
And then a double knocks in another run in the 2nd, and he goes ahead with a single in the 9th.
3 for 4 on day one of his return.
Super cool, and so was Joe Maddon's "You go, we go" quote (from last year but he must have repeated it last night because people are talking about it).
Hey, we didn't even get to say goodbye to Albert Almora.
I gotta do something about that.
Anyway, Cubs beat the Brewers 5-2.
Jason Hammel goes 5, and Maddon brings Carl Edwards Jr. in for the 6th and... shut down time.
Maddon called him a "middle innings closer" and vowed not to overwork the kid.
And we might really appreciate that come late in the season.
My fav play last night, however, was the INCREDIBLE throw unleashed by young Willson Contreras the... lets see what was he playing last night? Oh yeah. He was the left fielder. That's right.
And Kirk Nieuwenhuis was on first when Hernan Perez hit one way out to Contreras, who almost threw out Nieuwenhuis at the plate.
Contreras is soooo cool.
And the Cards have now won 5 in a row, last night with a 16th inning walkoffer from Adams.
But my fav quote from the St. Louis Post Dispatch comes from Jeff Gordon, writing about the trade deadline: "But for now the Not So Small Bears are sitting pretty. They can trump any move the Cardinals make to upgrade."
