Well, that was unpleasant.
At the end, at least.
John Lackey was in the process of owning his old team, and the Cubs had done enough to win this 1st game of the 2nd series with the Cardinals.
And while they didn't score as many runs as they should, the Cub bats made Adam Wainwright work like crazy.
I mean, I'll take 108 pitches in 6 innings.
The Cubs were up 3-1 and Lackey, it seemed, needed maybe about 6-7 pitches to get through an inning.
He was amazing.
But then the mistake to pinch hitter Matt Adams with somebody on in the 7th and dammit the thing is tied at 3.
Then Adam Warren, who I don't know about you but I have supreme confidence in, did the same thing in the bottom of the 9th.
Center fielder Randal Grichuk hit one out and the Cards got to act like they won the World Series.
Cards 4 Cubs 3.
Earlier that inning, Dexter Fowler lead off with the solid single and moved to third on Ben Zobrist's single you thought well here it is - the almost expected late inning runs.
But Anthony Rizzo dinked a pop to third and Fowler was already down the line and he got doubled up even as he kept running home.
After the game the reporters kept asking about that play, but seriously I liked him going for it.
Sorry I've been out so long but man has it been busy.
But yesterday, got to listen to Pat and life was good and I made a bunch of orange food on the grill.
Tonight at 6 it's Hammell/Wacha, then Wednesday is a late lunch-time game featuring Jake Arrieta and Carlos Martinez.
Remember, they played well.
People who are panicking are the same people who were saying Pittsburgh was OUT OF IT a week ago.
That's crazy, man.
There's miles to go.
