I totally mean no disrespect to the past.
Surely you know that I've loved the Cubs for longer than some of you have been alive.
But I'm just saying...
I remember one Cubs Convention where I was standing there and suddenly MIKE FONTENOT walked by.
An arms-length away.
It was awesome.
About a half hour later, same thing - just standing there and suddenly Derek Lee walked by.
DEREK FUH-REAKING LEE!
That's kinda how I compare old Cubs Conventions vs the one about to happen.
Used to be a buncha Mike Fontenots walking by.
This next one, they're ALL gonna be Derek Lees.
This next convention is going to be enormous.
Like, nobody can wait for this next season.
A jolt of Cubs is just the tonic for right now.
And... can you IMAGINE the line to get a Kris Bryant autograph?
Oh wait - that one's out to Wells Street?
Okay, I'll go wait for Anthony Rizzo.
Then Jake Arrieta.. Kyle Schwarber.. Jason Heyward.. Addison Russell...
I'd even settle for a Jon Lester.
That's a joke.
If I were an autograph guy, I'd put a Jon Lester on the mantle.
But I'm not.
I thank God, too.
That I'm not one of those autograph people or surely I'd lose my mind and hours of my life waiting in line.
But the star power that's going to be walking around the building, speaking at forums, taking questions...
Hell, man... in the old days even I got to do a Cubs Convention forum.
"And here's the guy who does illustrations for Vine Line, Tim um.. Swors."
Those days are gone.
The Cubs are loaded with All-Stars and they're going to lead us to the promised land.
Not that I don't like the Ryan Dempster skits or anything - maybe those will still happen - I'm just saying it's a different show going on under this new Cubs tent.
And if you can deal with the crowds, you should totally be there.
