It's kind of an important day.
Because today, they're no longer "The Cubs".
They're "Z Cubs".
Eet zounds French, zees... "Z Cubs", no?
I vound a video on zee You Tube zat explains how to speak with zee French accent.
Okay, I'm already giving myself a headache weeth zees idea so... never mind.
But I also wonder... who decided on the "x" and "z" letters to denote playoff stuff in baseball standings?
Ahh whatever - Z CUBS CLINCHED A PLAYOFF SPOT!
I flew back from Los Angeles yesterday, landed in Chicago and when I turned off the airplane mode on my phone I immediately got a message from At Bat saying that "Michael Morse singles in the top of the 7th. The Pirates take a 2-1 lead over the Cubs."
During the disembarking, walking through the terminal and eternal wait for my suitcase to come, I watched the score unfold on my phone, miraculously not tripping or running into anything.
When Denorfia starts off the 9th with the double followed shortly by Castro's triple, I was of course thinking about the game itself but more importantly I thought man, the Cubs can hit their closer.
As you know, they ended up losing 2-3, with Ks for Montero, Soler and Baez in the 9th but...
You can jump ahead, can't you?
On October 7th we're gonna see Garrit Cole go up against Jake Arrieta, and there won't be a whole lotta whackin' the ball around for most of that game.
Maybe each starter goes 9, but if not... it's bullpen time.
Okay getting WAY ahead of myself here, but it's there in your head and there ain't no denying it.
In the meantime, a little momentum would be nice, right?
On the other hand... like tomorrow, Arrieta takes the mound.
Important stuff, another game against the Pirates, but I hope Joe Maddon doesn't have Arrieta go the distance.
Today at noon ChiTime, it's Hammel v Francisco Liriano.
GO Z CUBS!
