On one hand, I sure would like to see a W tonight.
On the other, I sure hope Joe Maddon doesn't leave Jake Arrieta in for all 9 innings.
I went to the game Saturday, said hey to Ernie.
I hadn't been to a game with such playoff intensity since 2008, when Mark DeRosa, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Theriot all made errors in a 3-10 rout by the Dodgers.
When I got to my seat, I arrived in the middle of a celebration.
For the Cubs are in the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
On the giant video screen, they played 2015's greatest hits.
All the Cubs were out on the field, standing in place watching the vid.
It was genius stuff by Cubs management - this scene was impossible before this year without that screen AND this amazing new group of Cubs.
It set all your Cub Emotions on fire.
You should have heard the crowd when they showed The Rizzo Play (where he leapt into the stands, caught the ball, threw it back and then tumbled, uninjured).
CRAZY LOUD FUN AWESOME.
It was the frustrating Jason Hammel on the mound, and almost true to form he was great until the 5th, when he gave up like 50 straight hits.
My best action shots were of Kris Bryant, here smacking a double in the 4th.
Here sliding safely into second.
And here he is just 90 feet away.
Didn't make it.
I'm pretty sure he was the only Cub to reach third.
Francisco Liriano was just really good, and the Cubs used all their relievers.
Justin Grimm needs to relax - you can feel the pressure he's under.
Tim Cahill is fantastic.
Tommy Hunter struck out 2 but also gave up 3 hits. YUCK!
Far and away the most interesting was young Carl (C.J.) Edwards, Jr.
Induced a couple ground outs but also looked super impressive striking out Andrew McCutchen looking.
In the bottom of the 8th, Addison Russell and Kris Byrant both walked, the latter coming with 2 outs.
And when Anthony Rizzo stepped up to the plate man, the place went apeshit.
I'm still a tad hoarse from that moment - EVERYBODY was up and screaming.
But grizzled old Clint Hurdle ambled out of the dugout and brought in Bastardo, who got Anthony to pop up.
The 9th was nothin'.
I walked out.
This morning I saw they had some kinda champagne celebration on the field after the game.
Didn't see it.
All I got to see was this guy:
Okay now GO CUBS!
