I have no idea what Anthony Rizzo's mom looks like, but whatever... I would imagine every time her son gets drilled by a pitch she has this same reaction: "Anthony! You're standing too close to the plate!"
Seriously, his stance has got to be at least a little unnerving for opposing pitchers, hulking way out there in strike space.
He owns the plate and he doesn't care if a pitcher throws at him or not.
Scares the crap out of me - baseballs are not soft.
Last night, if you were watching, you saw him take a pitch off his (it looked to me) like his back shin.
This is so embarrassing, but no matter where I am, if I'm watching baseball and there's an inside pitch that looks like it might hit somebody, I can't help it... I let out a loud warning noise as if the batter can hear me.
I'm an idiot, honestly.
I just did it at the airport last Friday, all these strangers turn...look at me.
Whatever, I do it by myself too.
"AHHHHHHH" I say, then it hits him in the shin and you KNOW how much that has to hurt.
But then Rizzo does the weirdest thing: he looks towards the dugout and beams out a giant smile.
Only then do I find out he's been hit 30 times (I knew it was alot, but good GOD), AND he's hit 30 homers which puts him in an odd but exclusive club along with Don Baylor.
There are only two in this 30/30 club.
Okay so it was a looong rain delay, the game comes on super late, the Reds have a guy on the mound you never heard of, he's getting killed and gives up 4 runs in the first inning and I thought NOTHING good can come of this game.
For sure Cubs will score 20 and the Reds will get pissed off and start throwing at everybody.
But that didn't happen.
The 4 runs were all the Cubs got.
Cubs 4 Reds 1.
Meanwhile in PIttsburgh the rain doesn't let the game happen, so the most compelling baseball didn't happen and instead they'll play 2 today.
And... this is SO Cardinals: EVERY TIME SOMEONE GETS HURT, SOME OTHER GUY STEPS IN TO TAKE HIS PLACE.
Who is this Adam Wainwright guy anyway?
K gotta run.
ps: Mrs. Rizzo, sorry about the illustration as I know it's not very flattering.
