Back from the Great North Woods again.
No musky, but don't feel sorry for me - it's a joke I don't mind going on since I still have fun while it's happening and I don't just go for musky.
I drove into town for groceries and got my At Bat app to actually stream for awhile for the first game of the Cubs/Cards double header. I shopped extra slow, listening. It kept working in the car so I got in about 3 innings that ended when I got into the woods.
The part that was the most unfun was when I finally found AM 780 - remember how AM radio sometimes picks up stations from waaaaay far away when the sun is down and it's DARK out? And that wasn't happening until 10-ish so I never had much time to find it.
Anyway when I did, it was for the end of the 2nd game of the double header vs. the Cards.
I could suddenly hear him.
Here are the notes I wrote in the dark, and don't read this if you're offended by profanity:
I"m writing on the back porch of the cabin. The radio is magically working.
Soler did something.
"I have no idea what Starlin Castro was thinking...that was not a wide-margin foul ball. That ball was foul by inches." says Pat.
So Castro hit a ball that was only barely foul, but he never even ran to first.
Good God Castro.
And he strikes out swinging.
Now Miguel Montero who had a 3-run double in the 6th.
Soler steals second.
Radio making giant static sounds driving me nuts.
Swing and miss ends inning.
5-4 Cubs in the 9th.
Fasten those seat belts and cinch 'em extra tight says Pat.
Bourjos swings at first pitch...pop up to Castro.
Radio went completely out.
Strike 3 and that's out #2.
"Good hook to get the strikeout" says Ron.
Matt Carpenter up (0 for 4).
These teams might meet in October says Pat.
Ball 2 down low.
Ball 3 low.
Ball 4 shit now it's Peralta.
Bosio goes to mound.
Kozma runs for Carpenter.
Radio goes out SHIT.
Count 1-2 after a foul.
FUCKING HOME RUN 2-RUN HOMER NIGHT MARE 6-5 ST. LOUIS LEAD.
Pitch was middle of the plate and up says Ron.
SHIT SHIT SHIT (many times).
Now the radio is clear and it's Joe Maddon for Binny's - bad timing.
Now it's Lynyrd Skynyrd "Sweet home Alabama" music.
Coghlan tough luck out to Peralta.
Denorfia out to someone.
Russell double to the wall amazing at-bat.
Fowler strikes out.
Fucking son of a fucking fuck fuck.
So that was bad.
Here's the painting I did the next day:
You use live leeches to catch walleye.
Poke the hook right through their only feature - a tiny mouth.
Anyway, good to be back, sucks they've lost 2 to the Sox but today is Jake Arrieta so I expect it to stop.
And here are some random shots:
The sky is always amazing:
There were wildfires in Canada, and the stuff in the air made the moon pink:
Weird mossy stuff looks like a miniature forest:
Try this at your next 4th of July. It's just plain awesome:
Lots of eagles:
Walleye is good:
Aww how cute:
