Well that was a rotten way to end a no-hit bid.
Jon Lester shut down the Cardinals for 6 innings, but in the bottom came an incredible Kolten Wong diving, momentum changing, life sucking double play on a Starlin Castro grounder with Rizzo and Bryant on base.
Then in the top of the 7th, Kris Bryant had a couple tough plays at third, one resulting in a Jhonny Peralta infield single which took the no hitter off the board, and then he got an error on a Jason Heyward grounder.
You can't make these kinds of mistakes against the Cardinals.
Because then Molina sacs in Peralta, and Wong singles in Heyward.
All she wrote.
Cards 2 Cubs nothin'.
Today is a double header with Jake Arrieta vs Tyler Lyons at 12:20 followed at 7:05 by a hopefully fresh Dallas Beeler vs Tim Cooney who has pitched all of 8.1 innings so far this year.
One would hope Arrieta goes deep into game one because one would think Beeler won't.
Which usually means the opposite since I wrote that.
Cubs, how about taking 2 today?
The opportunity is right there.
PS: Lester got his first Big League hit last night, so maybe things'll change for the better for him.
