Dempster is the poster child for the Death of Pitcher's W-L Records right now. He is unquestionably in the middle of the best season of his long career (1.74 ERA, 2.09 FIP, 3.07 SIERA -- all very good), yet has an 0-1 record.

Meanwhile, SP Tommy Milone is 5-2 with a 3.92 ERA and 4.20ish FIP/SIERA.

I ASSERT, THEREFORE, THAT A PITCHER'S W-L RECORD TELLS US NOTHING ABOUT THAT PITCHER'S ABILITY OR PERFORMANCE.

Stats!
Ah, gotta love the all-caps comment.
So, I think youre absolutely right.
How many pitchers have bonuses that are tied to wins and losses vs. more meaningful measurements of the pitchers value to a team?

It is awesome watching Dempster this year.
Its like he wants to hang around Chicago because he knows its only getting better.
