We've been hearing Matt Garza rumors for quite awhile now.
Just the other day Theo Epstein fanned the flames to .500 by saying that basically Garza is A) a guy to build around, and B) so valuable that if the right offer came that meant alot for the future, well Garza is available.
But I wonder what Garza thinks?
If you're a 28 year old front of the rotation guy and had a chance to go somewhere with a stud team behind you already, wouldn't you want to go there?
Wouldn't you want to get as many wins in your career as you possibly could?
Wouldn't you want a third baseman that could field the position and smack homers?
A team with a first baseman?
A team not populated with everybody else's castoffs?
A team with...a chance?
You know I'm pretty firmly in the pro-rebuilding frame of mind.
I like what's going on even though the details are still really fuzzy and weird.
The big picture, the stuff you can hear when Theo speaks - that makes perfect sense.
It's these odd parts (like the players) that have me confused.
Surely it's going to be a time of surprise for us fans, though.
And there's a lot more going on than I know about.
As for Garza, here's what it says in MLB TRADERUMORS: "Unlike Danks, Garza is a super two player. This means the Cubs control his rights for one extra year (through 2013) and means there’s less urgency to extend Garza."
So staying or going, that's not up to Garza for a couple years.
But I'm pretty sure how he must feel.
Sure hope you all had the best Christmas.
