Well it's another day of not alot going on for Cubs Fans, except in Brewer-Land Rickie Weeks has thrown down the gauntlet and informed them that they have until the end of Spring Training to extend his contract.
Otherwise it's just Arizona Dreamin' for you and me: 2 weeks til it's Happy Pitchers and Catchers Report Day.
For the occasion, the above "Pitchers and Hatchers Report" art is also a greeting card and available here.
On my bulletin board, I keep photos and stuff I like just for inspiration or whatever, and below are two that just happen to be hanging together: Richard Nixon and Elvis from a 1999 Trib story, and a 2008 Kerry Wood in Spring Training Action with Big Z in the background.
This photo was taken by Catherine J. Jun of the Arizona Republic, and the angle and moment she captured gives me goosebumps.
HOW AWESOME IS IT THAT KERRY WOOD IS BACK ON THE CUBS?
Anyway, here it is:
Couldn't agree more Tim re: Kerry Wood. I'm so psyched he's back. Was recently at the Cubs convention and he got the loudest ovation of all of the intros on Friday night. In my mind he goes down as one of the greatest Cubs of all-time along with Ernie, Ronnie, Billy, Fergie & Ryno. Class act is the term that comes to my mind.
Couple of other things - loved the Mr. Aaron Rogers cartoon. Fortunately (or unfortunately)was at the NFC Championahip game and just glad I only paid face for my ticket!
Also, thought I'd pass along a story I heard about Santo at the convention that I had never heard before. Apparently, in the 60's Ron had gotten some death threats and the FBI was called in to investigate. After the threat was over, Fergie & Billy decided to prank Ron and stole the timer off of the whirlpool from the training room and wrapped it up with a ball and a bunch of tape and put it in Ron's locker. When Ron enters the room, Fergie goes, "Billy, do you hear that ticking?" Ron then opens his locker, finds the package, runs out onto the field and heaves the package over the left field wall, returning to fits of hysterical laughter.
Have a great week and get your shovel ready.

Steve, that story is so modern day politically wrong yet hysterically funny!
Thanks for putting it in here.
Totally psyched to see Kerry pitching for the Cubs again, too!
