The 2003 opener vs the Mets in NY.
Cubs win big.
Years ago, I went to a game in NY by myself, wearing a Cub hat. The airport is right next to Shea Stadium, so the planes fly right overhead making a huge noise, but they're all used to it I guess. Anyway, nobody talks to me. The Sarge (Gary Mathews) hits a giant homer out near that big plastic Uncle Sam hat, and of course I stand up and cheer.
Couple people give me menacing looks.
One guys says, "You really a Cub fan?"
I go yeah, from Chicago.
"Oh!", the guy says, "We thought you were a Yankee fan just coming here to root against us."
They bought me a beer even. Still didn't change anything. I hate the Mets.
