That's what I usually hear when Kyle Hendricks is pitching.
Here's what it says in Baseball Prospectus: "Kyle Hendricks has thrown 485 pitches that have been tracked by the PITCHf/x system in 2014, all of them occuring in the MLB Regular Season. In 2014, he has relied primarily on his Sinker (89mph), also mixing in a Change (79mph), Cutter (86mph), Curve (77mph) and Fourseam Fastball (89mph)."
Whatever it is, the ball's not going straight because people are missing it.
Not missing completely - he'll get a couple strikeouts but it's those lousy grounders that are the joy to watch.
The kind of pitches that'll have Len saying, "Well that inning only took 4 pitches."
We'll see what happens as more and more teams see him, but so far he looks really confident and I would say that out of all the kids the Cubs have this guy has been the most surprising.
Here was a bad surprise.
I was in Los Angeles staying at a hotel where each beer in the fridge is like $7.
I have found that for the price of 2 hotel room beers, I can find a conveniently packaged six beers in a grocery store.
My hotel was up on a hill, and at the bottom was a Trader Joe's.
I walked in to get some IPA.
I walk through the entire store which seemed to be a long, skinny room.
Oh wait, there's a section of beer over by the cash registers. The selection is nice, but it's all in boxes up agianst the wall.
So I turn around and walk thru the store again.
Can't find any fridge section with beer.
I grab a worker.
"Hey can you show me where the cold beer is?"
She pulls me around a corner, and there is an open fridge with some other stuff and about 5 quart-sized bottles.
I go, "Ha funny."
She goes, "Nope, I think that's it."
I go, "Can I speak to a manager?"
She goes and gets a manager.
I say, "I see you've got a really nice selection of beer over there, but none of it is cold."
He says, "That's right."
I can't believe it.
So I say, "Why do you have only warm beer for sale?"
"Because we're not a convenience store."
And I'm never going into a Trader Joe's again.
But Kyle Hendricks is gonna take the mound for our favorite team in game 2 vs the 1st place Brewers.
Lets watch and see if Ryan Braun hits a couple lousy grounders...
In the meantime, go here.
It's kind of like Hendricks' entire pro career on one page of videos.
