Last night on the Cubs broadcast somebody tweeted a question something like: what do you think was the best Cubs trade, Len and JD?
Without missing a beat, Len said the Arrieta trade with Baltimore.
It's so weird being able to actually choose between awesome Cub trades - (I simplify) Cashner/Rizzo, Samardzija/Russel, Wood/Marshall...
The Arrieta trade has SO worked out in the Cubs favor (they got Strop too) that it's almost like... too much to crow about.
We still want people to make deals with Theo and Jed, so we should keep our glee on the down low, you know?
Anyway, today will be interesting.
The 1st place Baltimore Orioles have one more win (72) than the Cubs have losses, and that is saying something.
And of course it's Jake Arrieta's first go at the team that brought him up and gave up on him.
Extra incentive, all that.
Okay, go Cubs and Jake... show 'em how bad a mistake they made, bud.
ps: I haven't mentioned it, but really sad to hear about Starlin Castro's family/friends.
It's just an awful way to sort of make a point, but all the chatter you hear about trading Castro seems to be nuts when you see a lineup without him.
No, he's not a cleanup guy, but he's an all-star shortstop with a pretty consistent bat that's REALLY missed right now and I have to think next year when there's even more kids brought up... he'll be even more important.
psps: I have a "spoiler black eye" poster happening in the right hand column that I'll update as the rest of the season unfolds. Hopefully some of those teams are obliterated before it's all over...
