How much fun was that?
Well, it didn't start out that way.
Freaky strong homer guy Giancarlo Stanton hit one to right field that reached an altitude of about 19' and stayed there for maybe 1.2 seconds before it went out.
I think if you were sitting in right field, you would have heard the sound of the ball smacking off a chair, and then a couple seconds later the crack of the bat.
But in the 3rd, instead of the usual homer, Mike Olt hit a single at almost the exact same time that the U.S. won their World Cup match against Ghana.
The last time the U.S. won a World Cup game was 2010 against Algeria.
The last time Mike Olt hit a single?
Otherwise, the Cubs went 3 up 3 down for the first 5 innings, so that wasn't very much fun.
Who is this Tom Kohler guy anyway?
Then came the 6th.
Tom Kohler turns out to be the guy that tosses the pitch that Starlin Castro smacks out of the park for a 3-run homer!
CRAZY SILLY FUN!
In the bottom of the 6th with a runner on 3rd, Marlin ss Adieny Hechavarria hit a moon shot to waaaaaay deep center field. Ryan Sweeney, who, you know, that guy's legs always break down... I never think of him as a guy who can run down a ball but OH MY GOD HE MAKES A SPECTACULAR OVER THE SHOULDER WILLIE MAYS or maybe Jerry Rice type catch that was so impossible Hechavarria ran all the way to third and stood there thinking he had a triple.
BEER SPILLING FUN!
Even though that sac fly tied the game at 4 apiece, I'M HAVING A TOTAL BLAST!
In the 10th, in comes Hector Rondon who lets Fish runners get to 1st and 2nd with one out and now all my fun is wrecked because for sure they're gonna score but NO! Rondon strikes out the next two!
Then... you know... yada yada and now it's the 13th inning just 3 days after it was Friday the 13th which is absolutely irrelevant, but whatever.
With Junior Lake on 1st, Travis Wood (who just went 8 innings to beat the Reds 3-0 on Sunday but is such an incredible jock) comes in to pinch hit for Villanueva and hits a SUH-CREAMer past the 3rd baseman for a double and Lake comes all the way around to score.
FUN UP THE WAZOO!
And that's how it ended up - the Cubs fight and pitch and claw and hit and over-the-shoulder catch their way to a 5-4 win.
