In the office late with Emily's radio on.
So I'm half listening, and in the 3rd inning just called up Pirate rookie Gregory Polanco comes up to bat for the 2nd time.
He gets his first Big League hit, a single.
And the crowd is going crazy and Pat starts in with the (and this is of course not exact) "Well you know Ron, Polanco is is going to remember this. Just listen to that crowd. His first Major League hit. He'll remember this night and this hit forever..."
And Coomer says something like, "And even though it came against the Cubs..."
Like Polanco had just bought a beautiful, rare diamond at a 7-11.
I never write these tricky shorthand things except for cases like this, so here goes: LOL.
So innocent and perfect.
Unintentional, but that's okay.
Anthony Rizzo got a "get out the tape measure!" from Pat with a massive homer.
He also gets 2 doubles and 3 RBIs as he goes 3 for 4.
So the Cubs' Big-Pretty-New-Guy beats the Pirates' Shiny-New-Object, and the Cubs beat the Pirates in Pittsburgh 7-3.
Poor abused Cubs 3rd baseman Mike Olt goes 0 for 2 (and I'll get a whole post out on him again soon).
Travis Wood is now a winning pitcher at 6-5.
And the Cubs have won 7 of their last 10.
Couple more games in Pittsburgh and then on to Phillie for the Friday the 13th matchup.
What might that game bring?
