Brian Cashman says he's gonna give Joe Girardi a real good reason to stay in New York.
And he's going to do it quickly.
And...why would he grant anybody permission to talk to Joe while Joe's under contract to the Yankees?
That can only lead to Joe finding out just how much others want him, which in turn can allow Joe's agent to say to Cashman, "Uh, you think that's a good enough reason for Joe to stay in New York?"
So unless something goes wrong in NY with the negotiations between Cashman and Girardi, Theo Epstein may not even get a chance to talk to Joe.
As this whole Sveum firing thing was unfolding I thought wow, what if 2 years ago Theo was SO smart (and kinda ruthless) that he looked at a calendar and said to himself you know who's contract runs out in a couple years? Joe Girardi. So lets hire a guy who can just...get us through the next couple years and not explode.
Like say, a Lee Elia.
If there is ANYTHING you can say about Dale Sveum, it's that he was absolutely rock steady under the weirdy-worst kind of beyond-his-control circumstances imaginable.
Anywhoooo, I anxiously await the coming days to see what happens with Mr. Girardi.
And in the meantime, I'm happy for the fans of Pittsburgh since the Pirates SMOKED the Reds.
But sorry, I can't feel all bad and gooey for a city that's been without a championship for 34 years when it's been nearly 3 times that long for you and me.
Lastly, the NHL season started last night with the Blackhawks beating Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals 6-4.
