Here were some texts going on between me and Dickie the Cardinal Fan, who was mighty nervous since the Sox had just tied the game at 4 apiece in the 8th.
ME: Relax. U got the pen.
ME: I love baseball.
I'm sure you saw the replay - 4-4 tie game bottom of 9th infield in with Jay at the plate, Molina at 3rd and gimpy Craig at 2nd (he'd just hit a double).
Jay hits a grounder that Dustin Pedroia dives to get to, he aims and throws perfectly to nail Molina while gimpy Craig takes third but Sox catcher Saltalamacchia thinks he can nail him and not very smartly throws inside the bag to 3rd baseman MIddlebrooks who misses it and falls dorkily and lays there as the ball skips by while Craig gets up, trips over Middlebrooks and right there was the game because the 3rd base ump called obstruction and there ain't no arguing it.
Meanwhile back in the game, Craig gimps it on home and is tagged out by a mile by Saltalamacchia, but the home ump rules safe and points to the 3rd base ump and then Cardinals are all jumping around while Red Sox are all running at the ump and it was just as entertaining and awesome a thing as I've ever seen on a baseball diamond.
If you hate the Sox and Cardinals, just forget about them for a minute - that was just really cool baseball and a play that old men will talk about at bars years from now.
