You know what?
I love baseball.
It's true - you probably know that.
But this last part of 2013 has been just... repetitive and awful.
I bought into The Cubs Way.
I'm Theo'd up and got my Jeducation, I understand how the Cubs go from bad to good, I see the brightness of the future and all that.
But that game last night really and truly made me gaggggg.
The Cardinals beat the crap out of the Cubs and clinched the division.
It's the 3rd time in about a week that that kind of thing has happened while I'm watching my favorite team.
The Cubs are the carpet other people are spilling bottles of Dom on, and it's revolting.
This season can't get over fast enough.
I'm in Los Angeles.
I had to go out in public and make an effort to find the game.
Here's what happened.
I'm at a hotel at the bottom of a hill close to the ocean.
It's very nice.
There is a place called Chez Jays at the top of the hill on the other side of the road, and they have one tv that sometimes plays the Cubs.
Hey, it's only about a 5 minute walk - thought I'd take a chance.
So I walk up the hill, I cross the street, I see there's construction that closed down the sidewalk, I get a phone call that is work related, I pay attention to the phone call, I see you can't walk around the construction or you'll get hit by speeding cars, I also see there's an open gate, I walk into the construction site, I get all the way to the end of it when some guys start yelling and come running from all the way across the site, I'm still on the phone, a construction guy yells that I can't get out the other side, the person on the phone says who is yelling at you, I have to turn around and go all the way back, I do, there is no crosswalk and lots of cars so I have to go all the way back and cross the street again. I'm almost back to where I started. I walk down the street again, there are no crosswalks or intersections until I go way past Chez Jays and to the Santa Monica pier. It's a loooong light and I see I've been walking for almost 20 minutes. I cross the street and now walk back towards Chez Jays. As I get closer I notice there are people smoking out front, I FINALLY arrive and walk past the smokers but they're not smokers at all, they're people waiting to get into Chez Jays because they only let so many people in or it's a fire hazard and one of them says, "Hey buddy, back of the line."
I say unprintable things.
I decide to walk to the promenade where there's the B version of Barney's Beanery but they have a hundred tvs. I walk in, I have to get a table, I say can you please turn that tv to the Cubs Cardinals game, the waitress says yes of course are you a Cub fan? I point to my hat, she says that's too bad because they're getting beat, I say that's shocking can I have a chicken sandwich and a beer, she says okay. Then she brings me a beer and I look up to see Dioner Navarro try to throw somebody out at 3rd but instead he throws it out into left field, and now here comes the food and the waitress says you know, everybody likes Cub fans and I say really and she says yeah, well you can't get mad at them because...you just feel sorry.
I left after Matt Stupid Holliday hit one out..
On the walk back I got 2 texts from St. Louis.
One said, "Division Champs, baby! Come to town for some post season and Zwickel."
The other said, "Always fun to see, in person, a Cardinal team clinch another division title against your cubbies."
Make it stop.
