It's just the Cubs and Phillies - neither of these teams have any kind of hope for the playoffs.
But it's the bottom of the 7th in a 2 up ballgame, and nobody plays ball to lose...
Chase Utley is on second when Kevin Frandsen hits a single to right, and Utley rounds third.
Meanwhile out in right field, Cole Gilespie (recent Giant claimed off waivers) fires a one hopper strike to Dioner Navarro, who catches the ball in position, rotates his torso to make the tag.
Utley doesn't see any way around Navarro and crashes into him.
If you saw it (and you can here on ESPN), you'd have recoiled at the violence of the collision and then watched in disbelief as Navarro rolled over and calmly showed the ump the ball.
Then, like you might if you were trying to get a waiter's attention, held up his hand to say uh, I'm pretty sure my leg is shattered.
That guy is made of some pretty tough stuff.
And later it turns out that it's a "contusion".
I have no interest in seeing what that looks like.
Anyway, a crying shame since there are only a few bright spots for the Cubs and Navarro was/is having a really nice season.
Awhile later Thomas Neal, the guy the Cubs got off the Yankee scrap heap a couple days ago, separated his shoulder while making a throw from left to second.
But the guy everybody (well, I mean Cub fans who were watching) will remember is this other new guy Donnie Murphy, who hit a solo shot in the 3rd to tie it up and then a monster 3-run shot to win it in the top of the 9th.
He's the guy the Cubs brought up (although his sketchy past is with about 4 teams, he trained with the Brewers this spring, and I have no idea how he ended up in Iowa) to spell the recently completely sucking Cody Ransom at 3rd.
And I'm sure last night's game will be his career highlight.
Good for him!
Cubs win 5-2, and while Cole Hamels didn't get the loss...can you remember the last time the Cubs beat the Phillies with Hamels starting?
So I was trying to think of what is the "toughest thing" for this drawing.
Nails are tough.
Asking your girlfriend's father for her hand in marriage is tough.
If I screw up and overdo a steak, that's pretty tough.
But then I remembered the honey badger.
This video made me laugh out loud for about 6 months, and I just looked again and it has over 62 million views.
Okay Jeff Samardzija, go get 'em tonight and go Cubs!
