I finally figured out why this happens.
Hockey isn't like watchng other sports - it doesn't really stop.
It's not like baseball where you get used to the cadence of the game with the batter up, batter down, three outs cut to commercial.
Or football's repetitive pacing, where there's a play and play stops and a play and play stops.
Sure there are penalties and the period ends and of course they cut to commercials after a goal is scored.
But it's kind of... random when hockey stops.
And consequently, I swear, if somebody scores a goal they'll cut to a commercial and then any weird time after that commercial's over, they'll do a replay of the last goal.
If you look away - say somebody joins the table or food arrives, you look back at the tv and ANOTHER GOAL JUST SCORED!
This happened to a guy right in the middle of the floor walking back from the men's room.
And then everybody looks at him like he's a moron and his friends all laugh.
My brother goes, "Don't ever fall for the video replay fakeout."
Of course, my whole life I've watched a million baseball and football games.
Anyway so now you know.
Tonight is Stanley Cup Playoff game #2 with the Blackhawks hosting the Bruins starting at 7 central.
I shall not fall for the video replay fakout.
How about them Cubs?
Spankin' the Mets in NY 6-3.
Edwin Jackson showing some life, Nate Schierholtz hitting his 9th homer, David DeJesus knocking in 3 with a triple, Anthony Rizzo waking up with 3 hits, and David Wright doing it all wrong on the basepath.
Big bummer is DeJesus messing up his shoulder crashing into a wall to catch a fly, and I guess he's on the DL.
So an excellent day of sports, fans.
Cubs today, Blackhawks tonight.
