It's tough work, being a Cub Fan.
It's a full time job.
It takes endurance.
Sometimes a leap of faith so large you feel... not so smart.
And sometimes it demands you sit in front of a television set all. day. long.
Like yesterday's enormously satisfying 14 inning win over the Cincinnati Reds.
(Coming just a day after an enormously satisfying triple overtime win for the Blackhawks!)
Why do we do it?
Why even watch when Darwin Barney comes up in the bottom of the 8th and 2 out with men on 1st and 2nd and the Cubs down a run?
Why leave the television on when Hector Rondon or Carlos Marmol or Blake Parker are called upon to save a 5-5 game in extra innings?
Well let me tell you why, Mister.
Because had you gotten off that treadmill, you'd have missed Barney's miracle line drive to right field that tied the game.
You wouldn't have seen Starlin Castro come THIS CLOSE to a walkoff homer in the 9th.
You'd have missed Hector Rondon striking out Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips... and finally Derrick Robinson WITH A RUNNER STANDING ON THIRD.
