I think I know what he's doing, that crafty Matt Garza.
He wants to be a Cub.
So he gave up 4 runs, a walk, a couple homers and singles and threw ohhhh, about 200 pitches in the first inning last night to just...cool those pesky trade rumors.
"I'm not really very good!" his performance said, "so forget about trading for me."
I mean, that's what he did, right?
Theo Epstein probably said..."DAMMIT MATT, you've GOT to pitch well, esPECIALLY right now. Trades are about to happen like CRAZY! Besides, we've got YEARS to go before we're respectable again. Why in the world don't you want to go to a contender and, you know, get some wins?"
Woulda been kinda nice to win that Atlanta series, but whatever, it's 2012.
5 measly hits.
Cubs 3 Braves 7.
You know who I miss?
Tony Campana.
Maybe they'll figure out a way to get him in there against New York, where Johan Santana awaits the rematch with Travis Wood.
Which he lost the first time around, just about a week ago.
Because he's "under control", Wood hasn't really been mentioned in many trade rumors.
So hopefully his performance will say, "Look! I beat Santana again, all you General Manager Pigs from other cities! I'm untouchable! HAHAHAHAHA!"
