It's too bad the Cubs weren't able to pull that one off.
Bryan LaHair hit his 5th homer of April to tie the game 4-4 against the Phillies.
Lotsa drama here, it was the 8th and Len Kasper went bananas when it happened.
But that's the way 2012 will unfold, I think.
With little ups and lotsa downs and even though the Cubs lost it was AWESOMELY EXCITING for a minute.
That was one of our Cub Kids who did that (okay, he's 29 but still...), and between LaHair and Tony Campana and Castro and Dolis (he's been pretty good too), I'm having some fun watching.
Lately.
Here's one thing I was waiting for...
Alfonso Soriano talking about not hitting a homer in April said something like ahhh, now that April's over we can all relax.
Here it is, in the Trib:
"We can do more," Soriano said. "I think everyone is trying to do too much. Now that this month is done, I think everyone will be more relaxed, and we'll see what happens."
Players (and managers) always do this thing where they separate the season to make excuses for doing crappy, or to set goals when they're clearly out of it.
Usually it's "wait til it gets warmer" at the beginning of the year.
Then, when they're out of it, the manager will say something like, "We'll try to win September."
I guess I understand it - keeps them sane or motivated.
But it cracks me up.
Don't have time to dive into stats, I just thought LaHair had a pretty fabulous April and we should all enjoy it.
Now it's on to Cincinnati and our favorite ex-Cub manager, Dusty Baker.
