Hey.
Would this not make a ton of sense?
Jacoby Ellsbury, the Red Sox center fielder, did something bad to his shoulder when he slid hard into 2nd base during the Sox home opener.
A "subluxed" shoulder.
That doesn't mean "below luxury", it means he kind of dislocated it, and it means about 6-8 weeks on the DL.
The Sox have some expectations this year, and 6-8 weeks is a long time.
The Cubs, on the other hand, are lacking in expectations this year.
Although they are expected to make trades to lose the guys they can lose if it makes the team better for the future.
Cubs center fielder Marlon Byrd happens to be one of those guys.
It's too bad he picked this April to forget how to hit, or some kind of trade might be a no-brainer.
But pay attention, because Boston's looking.
I don't really want to get into Sunday's Cubs/Cards game.
Unfortunately, that one lived up to the lower yet more realistic 2012 expectations we've come to accept here in Chicago.
I don't think Paul Maholm is as bad as he's been his first couple starts, but all your alarms go off with the two horrid performances in a row.
Monday is an off-day, but then it's on to Miami where, unfortunately, the Cubs will not see Carlos Zambrano during the 3-game series unless something unusual happens.
Wait...
That last sentence is a thing.
From English class.
Like an onomatopoeia or a dangling participle or something.
When you say "Carlos Zambrano" and then say "unless something unusual happens" in the same sentence, it's... a... an irony thing or something.
Can't remember.
Lastly.
I told you I'm working on a new flower box to go out front under the front window.
It's cedar, about 6.5' long, and to make it go with the house's trim and roof I'm going to coat it with some oil based hunter green paint.
So, I'm painting.
Dum de dum de dum de BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
A TINY FREAKING BUG FLEW IN MY EAR!
Not just loosely in the ear area - it came out of tiny freaking bug nowhere and flew right in my earhole.
What's the natural reaction?
I jam a finger in there and get it out.
Which is when I notice that my finger is covered with wet Hunter Green oil-based paint.
So I have a towel and wipe my ear out, but I go in the house and look in the mirror and...I have a green ear hole.
And while I am reluctant to have a green ear hole, I am more reluctant to put turpentine in my ear.
I'll keep scrubbing it and as the week goes by it'll get less green I guess.
Lastly lastly, Chris Jaffe over at the Hardball Times.
He does these posts based mostly on historical anniversaries, and they're always interesting.
Today he's got the 40th anniversary of ex-Cub Burt Hooton's no-hitter, and it's also a fabulous (or not) uniquely "Cub" Story.
