Know what's going on right now?
Planes are landing at Sky Harbor with baseball players on board.
Cars way more expensive than yours or mine are parking at Fitch Park, and baseball players are getting out.
The new Cubs pitching coach is probably walking around saying, "Hi. I'm Chris."
Maybe Non-Roster Invitee Trey McNutt met Trever Miller and thought, "Man, that guy is old."
Marco Carrillo is looking at Kerry Wood and thinking, "How did I get here?"
Blake Parker was just about to introduce himself to Dale Sveum, but instead Dale said, "Hi Blake. I've been watching alot of video on you."
They're not scheduled to do any working out til tomorrow, but just to make my heart happier I'm imagining that Geovany Soto is right now saying, "Wanna play some catch?"
I did this illustration for Vine Line.
Cannot tell you how weird this year is being a guy trying to come up with an illustration a month in advance with a subject matter involving a team that's in such a state of transition.
So I stuck with Ryan Dempster.
Just say that name out loud with me right now.
"Ryan Dempster".
Last time we saw him, he was gutting it out in the last game of a year I think we all want to forget about.
The Cubs were 71 and 90 that day, and Ryan had thrown 196.2 innings.
I wondered at the time, "Why in the world wouldn't you just let Dempster rest, Mike Quade?"
Ah well, water under the bridge.
It's a new day today, and a glorious one at that.
