If you're old enough, you might remember wind-up toys.
Cheap little dime-store plastic wind-up toys.
SO unbelievably COOL watching it go, but then it falls off the table or walks into a wall and gets stuck.
All the magic disappears.
That's kinda what it's been like watching the Cubs the last couple years.
Okay, maybe decades.
And I am not kidding you, when I read the story from MLB Trade Rumors that quotes Bob Nightengale (from USA Today) saying the Cubs were going to retain Jim Hendry, I totally plunged into a horrible depression.
Not like I couldn't breathe or I was losing sleep.
But more like... no. WAY!
Another freaking bag of nothing.
Wait til next year?
For what?
More of this same crap.
Then I had jury duty.
Can you blame me for being a mope?
Friday I was walking to a meeting and outta nowhere got a text from DB that said, "OMG HENDRY GOOOONE"
A total head-swimmer.
Hard to pay attention at the meeting.
Chicago Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry.
Gooooooone.
Well, I think we've got something to look forward to, guys.
There are all kinds of articles around speculating on who the next General Manager will be.
Whoever you are, will you please pick up the toy, wind it up and set it free?
The Cubs unexpectedly (or in typical reverse Cub fashion, maybe it was expected), came from behind to beat the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday 5-4.
Tyler Colvin knocks in Geovany Soto (all the way) from 2nd base for the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
I would imagine that Geo's still catching his breath.
I've got a Cub Fan buddy who came up from St. Louis, we'll see if we can scalp one Saturday.
Go Cubs.
It's so nice to say that now, for some reason.
