I guess I've heard that "Batter's Eye" term before, but the Sun Times sentence above sort of made me... wince.
I've talked about this thing enough - I have that ESPN ScoreCenter app on my phone. It's truly a fabulous tool and when I first got it I found it was SO COOL because after a Cubs game it will alert me that there's a final score.
The alert is, of course, those ESPN "dadaDA... dadaDA!" musical notes or jingle or whatever you wanna call it.
Awesome, right?
Only now, my ESPN experience has evolved.
I'm in Oif's office, suddenly "dadaDA...dadaDA!" goes off in my pocket.
I immediately say, "Oh, the Cubs already lost?"
It's like a trained response this year.
Plus I read about how hot that Chachin guy's been lately.
But...WOW!
2 homers from Carlos Pena and Aramis Ramirez each?
The guys who are supposed to hit homers hit homers?
Twice in the same game?
Cubs win 7-3?
And looking back, the Rockies had won the other 2 games of that series in April, so the Cubs avoid the sweep?
Man, I went and splurged on a little soft serve from a smoothie place downstairs.
Plain old vanilla.
My fav.
(When my son was about 4 he asks me what my favorite ice cream is. I say, "Plain old vanilla."
I didn't realize he'd think that was the actual name: "plain old vanilla".
He would continue to call it that for about a year.)
Anyway, fantastic with the W, and now it's the World Champion San Francisco Giants, the team that was supposed to inspire us into thinking if they can do it well, anybody can.
And now there's talk from management about the whole team being back from injury soon, and we'll see if they can't make a run, and all I can think of every time I hear that is Lucy asking me to kick that football.
Whatever, lets see what happens shall we?
And btw, I guess you never stop learning this game. "Batter's eye" has it's own Wikipedia page.
Might have to start using that term for real, I guess.
