San Francisco got to experience what us Cub fans came so close to in 2003 - an unexpected combo platter of breaks and good luck and fabulous performances from youngsters...and we'll... stop that comparison right....here.
Imagine being Madison Baumgarner or Buster Posey? World Series in year numero uno for you guys.
My favorite player out of the whole shootin' match was Freddy Sanchez. Did you know he had to have a foot operation as a 13 month old, and physical therapy for years before he could walk properly?
That guy is a walking source of freaky energy, and his play at 2nd and at bat was just super fun to watch.
Tim Lincecum wins the coolest game of his life. I was surprised Bruce Bochy took him out for the 9th, he had the Rangers just... missing. All night.
So Brian Wilson was the guy standing on the mound when victory happened.
Ranger (soon to be something else?) Cliff Lee - he gave up the big ding to Edgar Renteria, and Edgar Renteria ends up being the World Series MVP.
Edgar Renteria - that guy who used to be on the Cards and the Braves back when he was good, and we threw a buncha hate on him when he did that "left hook" slide and punched Theriot (or was it Fontenot? Can't remember).
Anyway, good for him, but my guess is he gets the Hideki Matsui Bum's Rush and ends up as a part of some trade next year. (You recall Matsui was the Yankee MVP of last year's WS, and then got traded to the Angels.)
It ends up a 3-1 win for San Francisco over the Texas Rangers, the Giants taking the Series 4 games to 1 for their first championship since 1954, when they were still in New York.
Soooo, 2010 over.
For the Cubs at least.
We've said it a couple times during these playoffs - the Giants are the shining example of "anything can happen" in baseball.
As Dusty Baker and now Mike Quade have both said, "Why not us?"
