I figure Mike Quade's got to take some satisfaction from last night's win over the Astros, especially considering the Astros started about half their regulars (Keppinger, Pence, Lee, Johnson, and Blum's been around since 1999), while the Cubs played two: Blake DeWitt and Old Man Soriano.
This was the Cubs lineup from last night: Sam Fuld, Darwin Barney, DeWitt, Soriano, Micah Hoffpauir, Brad Snyder, Bobby Scales, Wellington Castillo, and Mighty Casey Coleman.
That's pretty young.
Casey Coleman goes 7 innings of shut out ball, Cashner (who's just been nasty) and Marmol finish it off, Cubs 2 Astros zeero.
You're probably not like me, but I listened to the pregame on the radio. I wish I had a soundographic memory, or even wrote stuff down. I don't. But I think it was Dave Otto chattering away, and then they got Ron Santo on. The conversation was about baseball, and they asked Ron a baseball question. Ron answers with something like this: "I just had the BEST Italian dinner I've ever eaten. Oh my gosh. It was just amazing and it was at my friend (making up name here) Luciano Pavaratti's place, the Hole in the Wall. And my question to you guys is, have you ever eaten there?"
Awkward beat.
"Uh... no."
Could be wrong, but I think Ronny had a couple glasses of some fine red with dinner... and was his usual entertaining self.
I bet you didn't know this last Cub/Astro series is actually a deathmatch to see who can achieve 4th place in the Central!
If the Cubs sweep, they'll jump from 5th to 4th!
Man, if that's not motivation, I don't know what... well yeah. I do.
But still, it's always nice to beat the I Hate The Astros.
