I luckily caught the 8th and some of the 9th in last night's 8-zip Ranger win over the Yankees, so I got to see Kerry Wood come in for one inning and shut 'em down.
I don't remember the batter, but if you were watching you got to see a vintage Kerry Wood curve that made the guy buckle and leap out of the batter's box as the ball settled down right over the inside corner for a gorgeous strike.
No hits no walks no strikeouts, but he clocked at least one at 95, and it just must be nice to have him as your set-up guy.
But it was Cliff Lee's game with him going 8 innings and giving up zeero runs, and the Rangers are now up 2 games to 1.
I so didn't expect this, but that's baseball.
And even though I don't want the Yanks in the WS, it would be awesome to see Kerry get a ring.
I think he's like 32 or 33 now, but he looks sort of gaunt and old.
You think about what that guy's been through though, and you'd probably look like that too.
Anyway, that just popped into my head, that "Kerry the 8th" thing - kinda like a king of that inning.
Go Kerry!
