Man, you expect that some schmo team gets hot in the playoffs and goes way beyond expectations - happens all the time.
But TWO?
Maybe I'm nuts, but when the ALCS and NLCS ended up containing the names "Yankees" and "Phillies", I just assumed that was it.
Just skip to the WS, because it'll be those guys again.
The big rematch.
But obviously everything I thought was wrong.
Baseball gods are messing with the universe right now.
I'm SUPER shocked over the Giants, and after game one of the ALCS with the big Yank comeback, I thought they'd already stuck the knife in deep in the heart of Texas.
Anyway, (begin laughing here) for a championship series not involving the Cubs (okay stop), this is pretty damned compelling baseball-watchin', especially for Cub Fans.
Why?
The Cubs aren't gonna have a lineup that can approach that of the Yankees or the Rays or the Phillies for years to come, right?
But the Giants especially are proving to me right now that there is hope for the baseball-challenged teams, and the Cubs might be around the top of that list.
And now for the big news here at Cubby Blue.
The winner of the "Guess the manager and his press conference quote" contest is.... BUD!
He matched 5 things Mike Quade said, with Kim Crouch and Rich Beckman matching 4.
Anyway, here's what I'm gonna do: I will send* signed posters of the original piece to everyone who guessed Quade, and Bud will get the original acrylic on canvas painting.
Thank you all again for participating in the contest, and we'll do stuff like that again in the future.
*pls send the address you want the poster sent to to my cubby blue email address up top. I'll mail 'em soon as I can.
