Of course this was an assignment from Vine Line - do something for Andre Dawson's induction into the Hall of Fame. So I did a number of things, and you'll have to be a subscriber to see the one they liked.
But here's a couple illustrations with the greatest right fielder in Cub history.
I've been around long enough to have been one of those people who actually did that "I'm not worthy" bow thing when Andre ran into the outfield.
I'd do it today, too.
Yep, guy was amazing with the bat. But my favorite thing to watch was his arm. Because he was kind of a freak. I wish I could come up with one really clear story from memory - when he threw someone out at home or something, but I can't. I only know you'd have to be nuts to try and run on him.
The other thing about Andre is, you might think he was just a talented nice guy.
He was.
But you don't get to be Andre by just being nice.
This was an intensely competitive man with a perfect "v" shaped upper body, bad knees, and kind of wore an expression that let you know he wasn't thinkin' about anything but the play happening right now.
Today he's in the Hall.
Go Andre!
