Well, we knew this was coming.
Big Z's been the resident Robert DeNiro from "Taxi Driver" for years now, and finally went off for real.
This team we all knew wasn't very good - even with our lowered expectations it's been worse, well way worse, than I thought it could be.
There have been a zillion rumors and yesterday marked the first bit of trade reality when Derrek Lee put the kibosh on going to the Angels. I'm actually dying to know what the Angels were offering, and what in the world they were thinking to actually try to improve for 2010 when they suck nearly as bad as the Cubs?
We all know Terrible Ted is dangling out there, and we've heard rumblings about Ryan Theriot, and of course the Cubs will be faced with trying to unload this year's nutcase, Carlos Zambrano.
It's really wonderful, isnt' it, that once again the Cubs will be forced to trade a giant and bad contract for some other team's giant and bad contract.
The Cubs got lucky this year. Carlos Silva has been WAAAY better than Milton Bradley. But do you believe Odd Job is part of the future?
Trading Ted to free up some money feels so desperate, especially when you consider the kind of guy he is. The example he sets. The way he goes about playing the game. And I just wish there were alternatives that included getting rid of problems while allowing some people a new start.
I guess with the Lee thing, it makes you think about who will be the nucleus of the team next year. Who are the winners that will take the Cubs to the WS?
Because it's not Derrek and Aramis, is it?
I don't really buy the rap D Lee's getting right now - that he doesn't care about winning as evidenced by nixing the trade. But now he's a .250 guy who's lost his power.
Aramis Ramirez? Honestly if he got packaged in a trade, I wouldn't mind. I'm kinda sick of waiting for him to come off the dl all the time. He ought to have a ton of value, especially lately with his surge.
Ahh, I don't know.
Can you guys behind closed doors at Clark and Addison tell me what the plan is?
It's all suitcases and nutcases right now.
