Sometimes things just dont' make sense.
Joel Pineiro tossed a complete game shut-out against the Cubs, and only had to make 92 pitches doing it.
Here's the spin from Joel's stats page on ESPN: "He struck out a season-high five and did not walk a batter while allowing just three hits. While Pineiro's outing on Tuesday night was nothing short of spectacular, don't bet on lightning striking twice here. Pineiro's getting by with very good command (seven walks in 54.1 innings) despite the fact that he been very hittable."
The guy has a 4.50 career ERA.
3 hits for the Cubs, and not a single guy gets past second base the whole snooze of a game.
His last start, he gave up 11 hits against the Pirates, losing 5 to zip.
Oh well, either he had a great day or the Cubs were jet-lagged from the hour long flight to St. Louis.
Worse, the Blackhawks lost a game that would have changed everything, 2-3 in overtime.
So, a full dose of double whammy suckiness last night.
Tonight will be Rick Ankiel and Chris Carpenter's return from the DL, a huge boost for the Cards.
Ryan Dempster will go for the Cubs.
And lastly, here's a story from the St. Lois Post Dispatch about Randy Wells.
I knew he was from Belleville, but didn't know he went to Belleville Township High School East, the proud home of the Lancers.
East also happens to be where I spent my freshman thru junior years, so I'm an even bigger Randy fan than I thought.
Oh, yeah: WAKE UP YOU STUPID BATS!
