There are quite a few disturbances in the force today.
There's the Jake Peavy to the White Sox thing, which isn't good.
(Honestly, if I were Peavy I'd go anywhere just to get out of that stupid camo-uniform.)
And then there's the story that the Indians are shopping Mark DeRosa.
Olson, nice guy that he is, stopped by my office to share that little tidbit, and it gave me both pause and bad gas.
Nothing has been reported to support this, but if I'm the Brewers or the Cardinals I would stop at nothing to get Mark DeRosa from the Indians.
The Brewers just lost second baseman Ricky Weeks for the season.
And the Cardinals, they've been improvising all season with outfielder Skip Schumaker at second.
Not only would it solve their problems at second, but it would drop a bomb in the middle of the Cubs fan base and cause absolute havoc.
Milton Bradley was supposed to make me forget about Mark DeRosa...
Had the Cubs gotten Jake Peavy, that was supposed to make me forget about Mark DeRosa...
But if DeRo goes to the Brewers or Cardinals, he might just keep us remembering him all season long.
Because of the Cubs winning record so far, everything has been sort of okay.
Of course, that's what they were thinking in San Diego when they started so hot, back before they tailspinned to reality.
Half of the Cub position players are hitting right about the Mendoza line.
Milton Bradley, Mike Fontenot, Derrek Lee, and Geovany Soto have 85 hits between them.
Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Theriot have 84.
And last night, well...the Cubs can't score any freaking runs in St. Louis.
Chris Carpenter looked pretty solid, and it took a Micah Hoffpauir pinch hit to finally drive in a run.
So, I'm hearing voices in my head.
Yes, I believe the hitting will come around, and Lou's gonna have to switch some things up to make that happen.
But the voices aren't saying anything too comforting right now.
