Man, after all that awesome baseball, Kevin Gregg came in in the 9th and became the story of the game.
Poor guy.
2 pitches, 2 homers, a couple hits, and by the time the damage he'd done was finished, the game was tied 4 up.
The booing he got was of the special kind.
I think it's just unproductive, but I understand it.
And I hope he gets over it today, because Kevin - you're the closer.
Until the 9th, this game was pitcher-perfectly mapped out for a Cub W over Astro Ace Roy Oswalt.
Randy Wells continues to impress, shutting out the Astros for 6, then came Angel Guzman, perfect.
Then Carlos Marmol, every out was a strike out.
4 zip top of the 9th, bring in the closer and lets go home happy.
But it went bad in a hurry, and the crowd got ugly.
Two ladies next to us would boo as loud and lustily as they could, then look at each other and giggle.
Booing is so much fun, right ladies?
In the bottom of the 9th, Bobby Scales had an impressive, pressure packed at-bat vs. ex-Cub LaTroy Hawkins where he went 3-0, took a strike, and then swung at the second (you know he had to get permission for that swing, and he took it), and then just like the LaTroy I remember...ball 4.
Aaron Miles bunts Scales to 2nd.
Alfonso hits a little pop to right, and Hunter Pence's throw goes 5 feet over Pudge Rodriguez' glove, Bobby Scales slides across.
Victory.
Everybody sings Go Cubs Go and Gregg gets off the hook.
I don't want to think about what woulda happened had the Cubs lost.
So, I won't.
Today it looks pretty nice out, and it'll be Rich Harden against career ERA 4.77 Astro Brian Moehler.
Moehler's ERA for this season?
8.44.
Go feast, Cubs.
If watching has taught me anything about Lou, Kevin Gregg will be out there at the end of today's game.
You fall off the horse, Lou's gonna put you back on.
