I couldn't believe it.
Ted's out there throwing in the 7th inning.
First the guy right in front of me turned around and started to say that Ted had the no no going.
I frantically waved my hands in his face, he didn't finish.
Then a guy two rows back announces to everyone, "HEY! LILLY HASN'T GIVEN UP A HIT YET!"
All proud of himself for noticing.
The damage was done.
It's freaky how that works, but I figured Lou wouldn't let him go much further anyway.
It was awful out - it was so windy the rope that holds the flags above the scoreboard looked like a sideways rainbow.
And of course, that allowed Ted to pitch fearlessly because no way no how was a ball gonna leave the park.
It was hilarious when, it was either Guzman or Heilman, walked somebody and Lou walked to the mound and did the short "Throw the ball over the plate!" thing.
I was pretty happy to see D. Lee smoke that double to left - he really had a good swing going yesterday.
What else?
As I was driving in I heard on the radio that the Ernie statue, they must have hooked up some kind of sound thing because they said lots of people were standing around it listening to it say "Let's play two."
But when I got there, I stood with some others for about 5 minutes in the miserable, steady rain until finally some guy says, "Okay, I tried - I'm gettin' outta here."
I met up with Sutter and Don under the awning at the new commercially named "Captain Morgan's" bar next to the Harry statue, where we waited for the game to start and looked at the boobs wearing big foam pirate hats and the poor Captain Morgan girls with their coats wrapped around them (surely they were wearing something pirate-ly festive under the coats that they couldn't show off).
But the game was the best opener I've been to in many years.
Ted Lilly was THE reason to hang around in that weather, although our seats were remarkably wind-free for some reason.
And...victory.
Okay, tomorrow some photos from the opener.
