We had these cats when we lived in Arizona.
They were both outdoor cats.
One day, we were taking our infant daughter on a stroll.
I turned around, and there was Loathing, following us.
"Ha! Look at that." I said.
"How cute!" said Kim.
So we're walking through the hood, pushing the stroller and sort of taking the cat for a walk as well.
We'd done this walk a hundred times.
Every time we went on this walk, we'd get to this one house that didn't fence in their dog.
We both knew this.
I used to be a boy scout, and yet here was an instance when the "be prepared" thing went plumb over my head.
"WOOF WOOF!" said the dog.
"HISSS HISSSS!" said Loathing Cat.
I felt the first claws in my thigh, and went immediately into a mild shock.
Now...claws in my back.
Loathing Cat was using me as a tree, to escape from the barking, unfenced dog.
Like a squirrel, she climbed all the way to the top and wrapped herself around my neck.
"WOOF WOOF" said the dog.
"HISSS HISSSS" said Loathing Cat.
"AHHHHH SON OF A BITCH GET AHHHHHH THIS FREAKING CAT OFF MY AHHHHHHHH FREAKING NECK!" I said.
It only gets worse when you try to remove a scared cat.
So I ran away from the dog as fast and far as I could until Loathing calmed down enough for me to dislodge the claws and cat from my neck.
When EVER I see a scared cat like the one that ran across Wrigley Field last night, I get what appears to others to be an unwarranted fear.
However, should you and I ever be somewhere together and I see a scared cat, you'll know why I suddenly screamed and ran away.
Awesome game last night.
Rich Harden is looking waaaay sharper.
Proud to see Micah Hoffpauir's first homer of '09.
Derrek Lee's scoop of that one hop throw from Theriot was amazing, as was the speared liner by Mike Fontenot.
Cubs 7 Reds 2.
Plus, the Reds bullpen looks spent already.
Hopefully the Cubs get to Johnny Cueto early and do the same kind of damage tonight, where on the mound will be: Ted Lilly.
Go Cubs.
ps: did you see that guy just drop that pissed off feral cat into the stands? I couldn't help but notice that the fans there were all smiling and laughing, but whoever was directing the cameras knew when to cut away. Because what happened next was not pretty, and I guarantee you somebody's got some nice reminders of last night's game etched into his or her skin.
